Sally O'Connor
Tour of Roses - 23rd September 2009
"A Princess is turned into a horrid Scarface.",
Sally Klein O'Connor relates how Jesus healed her hurting soul.
"I am so happy to see you!" was one of the first things Sally Klein-O'Connor said to all the guests in Schloss Dachau. "This afternoon we have handed out roses and many Dachau citizens have come in response to our invitation....!" Here you could feel the joy for the guests that were present.
Sally Klein-O'Connor who comes from Los Angeles, is a messianic Jew. During her tour, the aim of which is to reconcile Jew and Christian she sang in Berlin, Nuremberg, Bergen/Belsen, Osweciem/Auschwitz. For most of the visitors ears it sounded odd as Sally apologised with the following words: "Without God I would have never got to know your wonderful old town, because, like many other people I would have probably only visited the concentration camp memorial grounds."
Klein-O'Connor performed traditional Jewish songs, Kaddishs and her own compositions in Gospel and Pop style and with melodies coupling their texts with faith. Sally writes the tunes herself and the texts come from Michael, her husband. She started her faith in Jesus many years ago. She told the story of how as an eight year old, she was bitten in the face by a dog and was very badly injured. In spite of many operations, her face was disfigured. She compares the scars under which she suffered for so many years with the scars with Holocaust left behind for both the Jew and German people. The town has to accept its scars so that its soul may be healed, said the singer. "We should remember this together " she appeals "then the scars are no longer so significant".
